Name: Emma Goldman
Dates: 1869-1940
Why she rocks: She was an anarchist who wrote and spoke about political activism, women’s rights, and other social justice issues. She was often arrested for trying to give people information on birth control, and encouraging men not to give into the draft. Though she was arrested and deported several times, she never gave up fighting for love, justice, and equal rights for all people.
Quote: “All claims of education notwithstanding, the pupil will accept only that which his mind craves”
Because of this woman… someone stood up for important issues for women, such as contraception, in a very aggressive way, so that these issues would get noticed and talked about, and eventually, solved.
