Name: Leila Ahmed
Why she rocks: She is an Egyptian American writer on Islam and Islamic feminism, and the first women’s studies professor at Harvard Divinity School. She has written several books on the ideas of feminism in Islamic countries, and how the two ideas can coexist very beautifully.
Quote: "It was as if there were to life itself a quality of music in that time, the era of my childhood, and in that place, the remote edge of Cairo. There the city petered out into a scattering of villas leading into tranquil country fields. On the other side of our house was the profound, unsurpassable quiet of the desert."
Because of this woman… we have a voice for women in Islam.
