flawsstitchedwithgoodintentions asked: Celia Cruz. Thank you for a post about Celia Cruz. I love her. She reminds me of my abuelita, a strong woman.

I absolutely adore her <3 I’m so glad that you appreciated it! She’s a wonderful, strong woman, and a great role model. =)

Name: Katie Piper

Date: 1983-present

Why this woman rocks: In 2008, an ex-boyfriend arranged for acid to be thrown in Piper’s face, leaving her with severe scars and blinding her in one eye. Although physically and emotionally devastated, she survived. She went on to make (with Channel 4) documentaries about life with disfigurement, and started the Katie Piper Foundation.

Quote: “I’m really happy to be alive, I’m grateful to have a great family, and to live in a country that has the NHS - I’ve had all this treatment on the NHS. Medical treatment is fantastic, the things they can do these days are amazing. To be melted and rebuilt is quite phenomenal, really. I feel positive about my life. I want to go on and get married and have children. I want a normal life.”

Because of this woman…work is being done to ensure all burns victims get the best treatment, and documentaries are being made where other people with disfigurements can speak out.
